The week after that seemed to rush by. Suddenly it was the third day of Advent and most of the prep work for the Christmas festivities still remained. Marja and Henrik had gone to the mall to buy the gifts in accordance with the children’s wish lists. They had agreed on the gifts up front; their youngest would get an iPad, while the oldest son wanted new football boots and a video game that Marja and Henrik had spent a lot of time researching to ensure the content was okay. Their daughter wanted a contribution to an expensive bag she was saving up for. They had decided they would give her that and something else too. Marja had a book in mind, but Henrik was certain that their now fourteen-year-old daughter would prefer something from the makeup department. As they strolled around aisle upon aisle of fairy lights and glittering stars, lugging carrier bags from several different stores, Henrik all of a sudden blurted out:

“I love you.”

It came completely out of the blue and Marja started laughing. She couldn’t remember when he had last told her that and she was quick to respond:

“I love you too. I am so pleased about, you know... the Advent Calendar. I haven’t felt this close to you in God knows how long.”

He gave her a lustful glance and it made her tummy all jittery. She recognised the sensation, but several years had passed since she last experienced it.

Oh my goodness, she realised, Iam falling in love. Again. With my own husband.

Henrik must have noticed how she looked at him, because he took her hand and pulled her close.

“Correct me if I’m wrong”, he whispered in her ear, “but I don’t think we have opened today’s calendar door.”

A hot flush spread between Marja’s legs and she bit her lip.

“No, I think you’re right. Shall we nip out the way somewhere and see if we can remedy that?”

Henrik thought that sounded like a great idea and they set about finding solutions to this newly arisen issue. Eventually, they managed to locate a toilet that was tucked out of the way. The department store was preparing to close soon and would only remain open for another forty-five minutes. The shoppers were slowly making their way to the checkouts and exits, the perfect time to sneak away for some them-time. They dashed into the toilet cubicle and giggled as they locked the door behind them, just like two teenagers being naughty at a party. The cubicle was clean enough to not bother them for the next fifteen minutes or so. The big carrier bags full of Christmas gifts were dropped on the floor and they hurried to get out of their outerwear. Marja managed to kick off her own shoes, whilst trying to unbutton Henrik’s shirt. He kissed her and she pushed him towards the loo. Henrik half fell, half sat down on the lid of the toilet and Marja straddled him after having pulled one leg out of her pantyhose.
